The suspect is a former self-defense force member.

Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe ( 68 ) died after falling into a cardiopulmonary arrest after being shot by a shotgun during a campaign for the House of Representatives elections in Nara City, Nara Prefecture, on the 8th.

The news of the death of former Prime Minister Abe, who served as Japan's longest-serving prime minister and was the centerpiece of conservative and right-wing forces, shocked the Japanese archipelago.

Medical staff at Nara Prefectural University Hospital held a press conference in the afternoon and announced that former Prime Minister Abe had died at 5:03 p.m.

The medical staff explained, "There were two neck and heart injuries due to gunshot wounds."

Former Prime Minister Abe was rushed to a hospital after being shot down by the suspect Tetsuya Yamagami ( 41 ) from a distance of several meters while campaigning near a station in Nara City around 11:30 am on the same day. A NHK

reporter at the scene said gunshots were heard twice and that former Prime Minister Abe collapsed with blood bleeding from his chest.

A police official said former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe appeared to have been shot from behind.

Former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was initially conscious while being transported by ambulance and responded to calls to himself, but later lost consciousness and was in cardiopulmonary arrest.

Police arrested the suspect at the scene and are investigating the charge of attempted murder.

The gun he was carrying was also confiscated. The gun appears to be a modified version of a regular gun.

According to NHK and Kyodo News , the suspect, a former member of the Maritime Self-Defense Force, said in a police investigation that "I was dissatisfied with former Prime Minister Abe and tried to kill him, but it was not a grudge against his political creeds," NHK and Kyodo News reported.

Ex-Prime Minister Abe tried to escape deflation with 'Abenomics', saying that he would recover

his lost 20 years, but failed to achieve much due to overlapping factors such as Corona 19 .

after judging that he could no longer hold office due to worsening of his chronic condition, ulcerative colitis .

Former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was at odds with South Korea and China during his tenure. In particular, after he came to power, the right-wing trend in Japanese society became serious. Ex-Prime Minister Abe visited the Yasukuni Shrine on December 26, 2013, the year after he took office for the second time, and aroused strong opposition from neighboring countries such as South Korea and China

Abe announced the comfort women agreement with the Park Geun-hye administration in 2015 as foreign ministers of South Korea and Japan.

Abe also provoked South Korea by remarking that at the time, sending a letter to the comfort women victims of the Japanese military was “not even thinking about it.”
